Inkworks Academy Named Best Beauty Education 2026

Inkworks Academy has been named Best Beauty Education at the Verve Magazine Best in Beauty Awards 2026, and for me, this one is personal.

I built Inkworks Academy because the training I received when I started in paramedical tattooing had a significant gap in technique and mentorship. That experience became the blueprint for everything I do differently.

A different approach to paramedical tattoo training

Inkworks Academy offers beginner and intermediate paramedical tattoo training in Auckland, New Zealand with a structure deliberately built around how people actually learn.

Classes are kept intentionally small. One to one, or two to one maximum. That means every student has my full attention, every question gets answered, and training adapts to the person in front of me - not the other way around.

The curriculum is built around cognitive load theory, the understanding that the brain can only process so much new information at once. Beginners start with inkless skin revision only, covering scars and stretch marks before any colour theory or camouflage work is introduced.

By stripping back the noise early, students can master the foundations faster, start working with models sooner, and build confidence that actually holds up in a real clinic environment. It keeps their learning pathway affordable, and they are in control with when to upskill and I'm there waiting for when they are ready.

Business skills are included from the start because most practitioners were never taught them, and technical skill alone doesn't build a sustainable practice.

Mentorship that doesn't end when the course does

One of the things I'm most committed to at Inkworks Academy is ongoing support. Not for two days. Not for two months. Students who train with me have access to mentorship long after the course is finished because I'm not overcommited to excesss student numbers.

We are stepping away mass produced training sizes that I experienced, where students faded away embarrassed at being unable to perform even the basics.

Confidence builds over time, questions come up in real client scenarios, and nobody should have to figure that out alone.

A junior artist mentorship programme runs alongside the formal training, giving emerging practitioners the opportunity to work alongside me in clinic on real cases a level of hands-on learning that simply isn't available in the larger brand led group courses.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Since building Inkworks Academy, I've watched other educators begin talking about mentorship, smaller class sizes, and the gap between technical training and business readiness.

I've been saying this industry was broken for years.

If the standard of training in New Zealand improves across the board, that's a good thing. But what Inkworks Academy offers isn't a trend it's a philosophy built from personal experience of what was missing.

Why Best in Beauty Education Award matters for paramedical tattooing in New Zealand

Paramedical tattooing is an unregulated industry in New Zealand. There are no mandatory standards, no minimum requirements, and no governing body that can enforce quality. That places enormous responsibility on educators to get it right.

Being recognised by Verve Magazine for Best Beauty Education 2026 matters because it signals that a higher standard of training is not only possible here, it already exists.
