Microneedling vs. Inkless Tattooing

Many treatments address the appearance of scars, but with so many options available, choosing the right one can be confusing. Two popular methods are micro needling and Multitrepannic Collagen Actuation (MCA), also known as Inkless tattooing. While they share the goal of stimulating collagen production for improved skin texture, they have distinct approaches and applications.

Microneedling:

  • The Process: Micro needling uses a sterile roller or pen with fine needles to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body's natural wound healing response, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, the building blocks of healthy skin for the face and décolletage.

  • Benefits: Micro needling is a minimally invasive and versatile treatment. It can be effective for reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture. Additionally, it offers minimal downtime, allowing you to resume most daily activities quickly.

  • Serums: Serums are often used with micro needling, but the specific choice depends on the condition being treated. Common options include hyaluronic acid for hydration and plumping, vitamin C to lighten hyperpigmentation, multi-peptides, multi-vitamins, and minerals for overall skin health and rejuvenation.

  • Limitations: Micro needling works best for addressing superficial skin concerns mostly around ageing or sun damage. Its not as effective for deeper scars or stretch marks, as the needles don't penetrate as deeply.

MCA/Inkless Tattooing:

  • The Process: MCA utilises a tattoo machine with even finer needles than micro needling. This allows for more precise targeting of specific scar tissue. During the procedure we may use one of two techniques:

  • Deliver Pigment (ink) into the dermis, the second layer of skin. This pigment helps camouflage the scar, blending it more seamlessly with surrounding skin tone.

  • Create micro-channels in the scar tissue using Inkless (ISR) serum. This stimulates collagen production to improve the scar's texture, depth, and overall appearance.

  • Nue SR Serum Ingredients: This surgical-grade serum combines powerful ingredients to target scar and stretch mark reduction. Key components include: plant extracts with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, B vitamins for cell function, amino acids like cysteine and glycine to build collagen, copper peptides to stimulate collagen production, allantoin for hydration and soothing, and minerals to support skin health. These ingredients work together to create an environment that promotes skin healing and may lead to a visible improvement in the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

  • Benefits: MCA is a more targeted approach specifically designed for treating scars and stretch marks. It offers effective camouflage, improved scar texture, and can address deeper concerns that might not respond well to micro needling. By using a tattoo gun and needles, we can penetrate the skin deeper, allowing for more targeted treatment of harder or damaged tissue. This approach forces a stronger healing response. Ultimately, the goal is to predominantly reduce the size of scars, which can lead to a more natural skin colour and improved texture.

  • Limitations: MCA may require multiple sessions for optimal results, typically spaced a month apart. There's also a slightly higher risk of minor side effects compared to micro needling, such as temporary redness, swelling, or bruising.

Choosing the Right Treatment:

The best option for you depends on the specific type and severity of your scars. Here's a general guideline:

  • Microneedling: Ideal for fine lines, wrinkles, mild acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture.

  • MCA/Inkless Tattooing: Ideal for deeper scars, stretch marks, uneven scar texture, and hyperpigmentation associated with scars.
